HISTORY OF PEARL LUSTRE PIGMENTS
The first pearl lustre pigments were the natural fish silvers. Natural
fish silvers were so very expensive that the development of synthetic
pearl luster began with
1920s mercurous chloride
1930s basic lead Carbonate
1940s lead Hydrogen Arsenate
Because of the toxicity, these pigments did not find acceptance,
hence in 1960, epoch-making, pearl lustre pigments based upon Titanium-di-oxide
coated mica were newly developed.
STRUCTURE : Synthetic pearl lustre pigments copy the mother of pearl
effect from nature.
